Understanding Trig Functions
The sine, cosine, and tangent functions work in radians by default. To convert degrees to radians: multiply by π/180. For example, 90° = π/2 ≈ 1.5708 radians.
Quick Reference
| Button | Name | Example |
|---|---|---|
| sin / cos / tan | Trigonometry | sin(π/6) = 0.5 |
| log | Logarithm base 10 | log(1000) = 3 |
| ln | Natural Log | ln(e) = 1 |
| √ | Square Root | √81 = 9 |
| x² | Square | 7² = 49 |
| xʸ | Power | 2**10 = 1024 |
| π | Pi | ≈ 3.14159 |
| e | Euler's Number | ≈ 2.71828 |
| ! | Factorial | 5! = 120 |
Why doesn't sin(90) equal 1?
The calculator uses radians, not degrees. For sin of 90 degrees, enter sin(1.5708) — this gives 1.
