How Text Counting Works
This tool counts words, characters, sentences, and paragraphs in any text you paste. Useful for essays, blog posts, social media, and content limits.
What each metric means
- Words: Sequences of characters separated by whitespace (spaces, tabs, newlines).
- Characters: Total count including spaces and punctuation.
- Sentences: Segments ending with a period, exclamation mark, or question mark.
- Paragraphs: Blocks of text separated by double line breaks.

Worked example

Common word count targets
- Tweet: 280 characters
- Meta description: ~150 characters
- Blog post: 1,000–2,500 words
- College essay: typically 500–1,000 words
- SEO landing page: 300–500 words minimum
