How to Calculate a Weighted Grade

This calculator computes your final grade when assignments have different weight percentages (e.g., exams 40%, homework 20%, project 40%).

The formula

Final Grade = Σ(Score × Weight) ÷ Σ(Weight)

Step-by-step

  1. Enter each assignment on a separate line as: score, weight%
  2. Example: "85, 20" means you scored 85% on something worth 20% of your total grade.
  3. Weights should add up to 100 (but the calculator normalizes if they don't).

Worked example

Homework: 85, 20% · Midterm: 92, 30% · Quiz: 78, 15% · Final: 88, 35%. Total = (85×20 + 92×30 + 78×15 + 88×35) ÷ 100 = (1700 + 2760 + 1170 + 3080) ÷ 100 = 8710 ÷ 100 = 87.1% (B+).

Grade scale (typical)

  • A: 90–100%
  • B: 80–89%
  • C: 70–79%
  • D: 60–69%
  • F: below 60%

Your school may use +/- subdivisions or a different scale. Always check your syllabus.
